Engineer training

Train With Me

I train engineers out of my own room in NYC. One on one, on the desk I use for records that go No. 1.

This is not theory off a slide. You sit next to a working major label engineer and we run a real session on real material.

What I Teach

1:1in my room

No class, no cohort, no assistant on the session. You book me, you get me.

Deposit only. Booked and confirmed through Square.

Book training

Session lengths and prices are set on my Square booking page.

Recording

How I set a vocal chain and get the take. Avid Pro Tools, Lauten Audio microphones, forward voicings for rapped vocals and neutral for sung.

Book

Mixing

The moves behind records for French Montana, Max B and Jay Critch. Session prep, balance, and the decisions that make a record translate.

Book

Mastering

How I finish a record so it leaves the room release ready. I mastered two full Jay Critch albums.

Book

Every session is booked and confirmed through Square, deposit only.

How it runs

The Session

  1. Book it

Pick your time on Square. A deposit locks it, and you get the address once it is locked.

  2. Bring your work

A session in progress, a record you cannot finish, or nothing at all. I start where you are.

  3. You run the desk

One on one in my room. You drive, I sit next to you, and we work on real material.

  4. You leave with the workflow

Not a handout. The chain, the order of operations and the reasons behind both.

Who I train

  • Engineers starting out
  • Artists who record themselves
  • Producers finishing their own records
  • Engineers moving into immersive audio
  • Anyone who wants the major label workflow

Who You Learn From

DeVonne Knights, known as Knice, at work in a session

I'm DeVonne Knights. Most people know me as Knice, and on a lot of records I'm credited as Knice On The Sonics. I'm a Brooklyn born recording, mixing and mastering engineer, I graduated from SAE Institute, and I came up through the ranks at Platinum Sound, the Midtown Manhattan facility co-founded by Wyclef Jean and Jerry Wonder Duplessis, where I joined the senior staff as a specialist in immersive mixing.

Today I run my own room in NYC while serving as head engineer for French Montana and A&R for Coke Boys Records. In 2026 a record I mixed went No. 1 on two Billboard charts and was nominated for Best Collaboration at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Training the next wave out of my own room is part of the work, not a side line. You get the same hands, the same desk and the same session discipline the records get.

Our job as engineers is to inspire artists.
